Balancing Your Entrepreneurial Life with Your Personal Style

I have been in this entrepreneur game for a long time, y’all. I love it, and I’m stuck here. Like, let’s be real: I’m not goin’ anywhere! Too much skin in the game. (And, also, it’s the best. It really, really is.)

However, while I’ve been in this entrepreneur game, I’ve also been in the obsessed-with-personal-style game. I am obsessed with personal style as it comes to my home, to my office, to my clothes, you name it.

This is why I’m 10/10 obsessed with how entrepreneurship and personal style collide — and it’s why I think often about how important it is to balance the two, whether it’s in your home office or your video call uniforms.

Plus, at this point, I think I’m kiiiiinda an expert in the balance. And, because I love to yap at you about things like this, I want to share a few of my go-to tips for making the most of both!

Lean into your branding:

You probably have brand colors that go with your business — so why are you leaving them to your digital assets? Instead of keeping your brand colors in your ad graphics and on your website, bring them to life in your office! Go for specific hues in your art, lean on pops of color in your furniture, and focus on creating a cohesive feel that aligns with your color.

(Psst… bonus: add in other brand elements, too! You can do this by creating a sign with your logo, framing your favorite client comments, or adding in a bookshelf with the work that’s helped define your approach.)

Think about the experience:

If you’re anything like me, so much of your workday and your productivity comes down to your environment — and to the experience you’re creating. Think about this when building out your home office, and focus on the DETAILS.

Maybe that’s putting a mug warmer on the left corner of your desk, maybe it’s bringing in a space heater to cool your feet, maybe it’s getting a timer for Pomodoro sprints, or maybe it’s just making sure you enjoy the space. It matters.

Ask how you want to show up:

I know that every single one of us has a completely different approach to the ways we create our lives, structure our businesses, and showcase our personal styles — so there is no wrong answer here. Ever. However, I want you to ask yourself: “How I do want to show up, and how can I weave that into my personal office space?”

See, maybe you’re a front-facing founder who is on meetings ALL DAY, and you need a stunning background for calls. Maybe you work in your office half the time, but you’re a coffee shop girlie otherwise — and you just need your office to make you feel happy when you’re in there. When you can answer that question, you can define your priorities and start to really hone in on what you want and need in your space.

At the end of the day, intention matters.

Your home office — whether it’s a sprawling room or a corner in your apartment — isn’t just a backdrop for your business. It can be so much more, and it can be a place where you showcase inspiration, ideas, and excellence. Plus, when done well, it can help you boost your productivity, spark creativity, and focus on the needle-movers in your business.

Remember this as you work on your space, and focus on adding things that really do level up your work AND your style. Weave in details that help you relax, organize things in ways that make you productive, and then have some FUN with it. That’s the beauty of what we get to do over here, and I think it’s high time we all start remembering that.
